Book Lisa for an Unforgettable School Visit
Lisa Yee has been an inventor, a hand model, and was once paid to eat chocolate. She’s been part of the Official Olympic Committee Torch Run Caravan (until the police requested that she leave). And she has the second largest collection of Winnie-the-Poohs in America.
Lisa’s writing assignments have included cans of refried beans, a speech for a President of the United States, and television specials for Disney.
With the publication of MILLICENT MIN, GIRL GENIUS, Lisa has realized her lifelong dream of becoming an author. STANFORD WONG FLUNKS BIG TIME, her next middle-grade novel for Arthur A. Levine Books/Scholastic will be out in fall 2005.
Lisa’s informative and entertaining presentations cover the amazing, strange and sometimes painful (ouch!) steps it takes to create a bestselling book, a lively reading with an assist from an unsuspecting audience member, the secret to successful writing, and Q and As.
The Boston Globe has called Millie, "The most likeable unlikeable heronie since Jane Austen's Emma." Other praise for MILLICENT MIN, GIRL GENIUS includes:
• Winner of the 2004 Sid Fleischman Humor Award
• An IRA/CBC Children’s Choice Selection
• A Publishers Weekly Flying Start and starred review
• A USA Today Critics’ Pick
• A CCBC Choice
• Washington Post Book of the Week
• A Bank Street College of Education Best Book of the Year
• An ALA “Great Middle School Reads”
Author’s home: South Pasadena, California
Suggested audience: Grades 4–12, professional groups, conferences, writer’s groups
Maximum presentations per day: 3

Kudos and Classroom Quips - Recent Visits

"Excellent presentation! Everyone is "buzzing" about how much fun it was (the students), how instructional (the teachers), and how inspiring (the library staff). We would love for you to return again."
Sandy Morris, Library Director, Carver School, San Marino, CA

Mr. Glick's Class, Brightwood School, Monterey Park, CA

"Lisa Yee's fun, creative and energetic presentation
captured the attention of all students. Her natural sense
of humor and ease with upper elementary students brought
laughter and interest to all. Lisa's presentation earned
the praise of teachers and librarians!"
-- Carol Duan, Branch Manager, Chinatown Branch Library, Los Angeles

"Lisa's kid-friendly and thought-provoking presentation gave our students insight to the process, the challenges and
the joys of writing and publishing a book. Many left motivated and inspired . . . (and) the teachers gained a lot from it as well."
-- Janice Kolodinski, Magnet/Gifted Coordinator, Multnomah St. Elementary, Los Angeles
